Hwa
Chong Literary Fund
BOOKSOUL
International is proud to be the initiator
and first sponsor of the Hwa Chong Literary
Fund and Talent @ Hwa Chong, both of which
were launched on Janaury 19, 2006.
The
Hwa Chong Literary Fund is a new fund created
to encourage reading, writing and other
literary activities among students at Hwa
Chong Institution. It could be used, for
example, to organise a nation-wide writing
competition for students, or to help promising
writers publish their original works.
Talent
@ Hwa Chong is a specially created display
section at Hwa Chong Institution’s
Jing Xian Library, which showcases the published
works of Hwa Chong alumni.
George
Tan, founder of BOOKSOUL International,
is an alumni of Hwa Chong Junior College
from the Class of 1975/76.
His
two books, Soulprints I – BreakThrough
and Benjamin Franklin – A bright spark!
were added to Talent @ Hwa Chong on January
19, 2006.
Other
authors whose works were featured include
well-known Singapore writers like Warren
Fernandez, Koh Buck Song, Claire Tham, Dr
Liang Wern Fook, Dr Cherian George, Dr Quah
Sy Ren, Chua Chim Kang, Lee Hui Leng and
many more.
The
former Hwa Chong Junior College, together
with the former Chinese High School, now
make up Hwa Chong Institution, one of Singapore’s
top institutions for secondary and pre-university
education.
Hwa
Chong Institution holds the distinction
of having the highest number of President’s
Scholars, recipients of Singapore’s
highest scholarship award.
